Weight Loss through Dieting

Over the last few decades, dieting has been one of the top ways to lose weight quickly. From extreme diets such as Atkins, all the way to the weird and wonderful, such as the banana and apple only diet, consumers have tried everything to escape their indulgent past and reduce the number of calories being consumed.

Funnily enough, most of the diets that the world has seen have failed miserably - resulting in fast weight loss to begin with, but then almost certainly resulting in weight being put straight back on when the dieter finally gives up the strict eating regime which was imposed on them by a myriad of instructions and guidelines.

So - with all the conflicting information out there, and with so much confusion as to what works and what doesn't, are there any proven diets which have worked time and time again to reduce the body weight of a participant? We set out to investigate.

Extreme Diets Are Usually Ineffective

Whilst they sound like a great idea at the time, extreme diets are usually not the best way to lose weight. As with most extreme diets which have circulated the world, the following steps usually take place in the dieting process:

  • Participant starts on the diet at full weight.
  • The diet causes weight loss and encouragement to continue.
  • A plateau is reached and weight is no longer lost.
  • Motivation decreases and the diet is usually stopped.
  • Normal eating resumes, and the weight is usually put straight back on.

Because of the often substantial change between the dieting program and normal eating (when motivation is lost) - weight is put back on at a faster rate than usual, leading to an increase in body mass, and a somewhat depressing feeling following the good feeling that was achieved during the dieting.

Small Changes Work Best for Consistent Weight Loss

Most nutritionists agree that the best possible way to lose weight consistently over the long run is to make gradual changes to your lifestyle, and to then stick with those changes permanently.

For example, if you are able to get out and exercise once more per week - you will find that you burn more calories in total per week, and therefore have a better chance of burning weight in the long run.
